Strength and Flexibility

Some bodies lean towards flexibility.
You know, you go to a yoga class and someone next to you just “falls” into a split, effortlessly, while for you, there are not enough blocks in the world that will bring the floor to your hands.
Some bodies lean into strength. Their muscles grow fast and after only five bicep curls their arms are super “buffed”.

In Pilates the goal is to find a balance between strength and flexibility. So that we can pick up heavy things, and also be able to reach for something at the top shelf. So that we can hold and support our new born, and also get down and up from the floor to play with them.

Pilates is unique in that every exercise offers an opportunity to both strengthen our muscles and stretch them. The stretch is built into the practice, and your muscles keep shortening and lengthening as you move around the mat. So that by the end of our class together, you feel taller than when started, and your muscles hug you and support your extra length.
